FRIDAY 27TH APRIL 2018
The under 11's played their final game of the season against Holmer Green with the chance to win their league. In hot conditions Missenden started the slower of the two teams and struggled to get into the game. This continued until half time where we were faced with a 2-0 deficit to overcome. We found our rhythm in the second half after a strong team talk from Mr Austin and Mr Kemp. We brought it back to 2-1 and had chances to equalise. However, Holmer Green stepped up and scored 2 more goals. The final whistle blew to end the game with the score 4-1. This shouldn't taint a great season for the boys who have impressed with their footballing prowess and attitude. Well done boys! Good luck in your future footballing endeavours.
WEDNESDAY 25TH APRIL 2018
This week, the girls football team played their last match of the season. Both Miss Harris and Mr Sperring agreed it was their best team performance of the year. Unfortunately, they came up against a very talented St Marys side and were beaten 2-1. Nevertheless, they remain top of the league, with two very proud coaches. Very well done girls!
TUESDAY 24TH APRIL 2018 - U10 cup semi final vs. Waterside
A fantastic team performance rewarded with a 2-1 victory over Waterside School. Great goals from Joe and Monty put Missenden into an early 2 goal lead which they held on to until the final 10 minutes of the game, leading to a tense finale. The final result was 2-1 which means Great Missenden go through into the final!
WEDNESDAY 18TH APRIL 2018
On Wednesday the 18th of April, the u11 football team played a league match against Little Kingshill at home. On a perfect pitch in hot conditions, the boys made a great start and were 3-0 up at half time, with our goalkeeper having very little to do. The second half started in similar fashion and the boys asserted their dominance all over the pitch, eventually running out 10-1 winners! A super performance yet again from all boys involved. They play their final league match on Friday the 4th of May with the chance to become champions!
THURSDAY 19TH APRIL 2018
On Thursday the 19th of April, the u10 football team played in a cup quarter final away at Elangeni School. With no substitutes, the the boys would have no rest bite in extremely warm conditions and a hard bobbly pitch. The first half was fairly even, with Missenden having the better play, but no real clear chances created. The boys rallied at half time and came out much better in the second half, penning Elangeni into their own half. Despite Elangeni hitting the post, Missenden got a late goal to win the match 1-0. They now play Waterside in the semi final at home on the 24th. Well done to all involved!
Girls Football vs Chesham Bois 22nd March 2017
This friendly game was an action packed match! There were goals, chances, saves and lots to be proud of. Unfortunately we lost the game 3-1 but the girls still left the pitch with their heads held high. Special congratulations should go to Fiona for playing in goal for the first time and to Lizzie for scoring her first goal for the school.
Girls Football vs Prestwood 15th March 2017
The girls managed to get their first league win of the season after winning 1-0. Great Missenden had lots of players competing for the first time and they all played brilliantly. It means we march on unbeaten with only one game to go!
Girls Football vs Gateway 13th March 2017
The girls had their second league fixture of the year and drew 1-1 with Gateway. Gateway started strongly and were 1-0 in the first half. After some wise words from our captain, Frankie and a goal from Ella, we were able to finish the match on level terms. Well done girls.
TUESDAY 26TH FEBRUARY 2018
On Tuesday 26th February, the Girls football team braved blizzard-like conditions to play their cup match against Chalfont St Peter. Mr Sperring and Miss Harris were extremely proud of the girls for playing in the conditions they had to play in and created some good chances. Unfortunately we lost the game 1-0 and so our attention turns to the league for the remainder of the term. Well done girls. You’ve definitely created some memories that will last a long time with that fixture.
TUESDAY 14TH NOVEMBER 2017
On Tuesday 14th November, Great Missenden hosted local rivals Gateway school in an u11 league match. We started fantastically, and were 2-0 up very quickly. Gateway pulled one back before half time to set up a tense second half. Again though, we started well in the second half again and got a third goal to make it 3-1. The rest of the game was very exciting with lots of end to end action and chances for both teams. The game finished 3-1 to us but could have been a lot closer. Some fantastic saves from Cameron Shaw and all round performance from Charlie Doran were highlights, although the whole squad deserves a lot of credit for their best performance of the season. Well done!
SATURDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2017
Miss Harris and Mr Sperring had the pleasure of taking the girls football team to Butlers Court last Saturday for the Buckinghamshire county finals. They were playing against teams who had won their own respective regional tournaments so the competition was fierce! On the day they qualified from the group stages unbeaten and went on to play Gerrards Cross in the Semi Finals. Gerrards Cross were simply the better team and the girls lost the match. HOWEVER... They were able to walk away with their heads held high as County Semi Finalists! Well done girls. We are all very proud of them.
WEDNESDAY 18th OCTOBER 2017
The team faced Chenies who had a couple of challenging strikers, meaning our defence had to work particularly well together. After a slow first half the score remained 0-0. It was clear Missenden could create the changes and in the second half things began to improve. 2 goals in quick succession ensured a comfortable 2-0 victory over the visitors.
TUESDAY 16th OCTOBER 2017
On the 16th of October the U11 football team played a league match at home against Prestwood. We played extremely well from start to finish with all 10 players contributing immensely yet again. The final score was 9-2 to Great Missenden. Well done to all the boys involved.
TUESDAY 10th OCTOBER 2017
The girls football team took part in a regional qualifier at Gerrards Cross School on the 10th October. For some of the girls, it was their first time playing a competitive game of football and they were truly brilliant! Miss Harris and Mr Sperring could not have been more proud. Their hard work in training paid off as they scored plenty of goals and finished in second place. This means they have qualified for the regional finals day at Butler Court School on November 4th. Well done girls. A very exciting season await.
THURSDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER 2017
On Thursday 28th September, the under-11 football team hosted a tournament featuring local schools such as Gateway, Waterside and Holmer Green. All the teams played each other with the top 2 teams qualifying for the next round. All 10 players in the squad played superbly well and contributed to our success. With some fantastic support from parents on the sideline, we won all 3 of our games and played some fantastic football in the process. We have now qualified for the next round which takes place at Butlers Court this Saturday. Hopefully we can be victorious here as well!
