Autumn Term 2

This term We are Explorers!

Our topic for this term is 'Who are we?' 

Within this topic we will be continuing to focus on our families and where we live. We are also exploring our local community and will be celebrating Bonfire night, Remembrance Day and Christmas!

Phonics

We will be revisiting the sounds we have learned so far and will learn the remaining Phase 2 sounds. We will be learning some digraphs (2 letters one sound). We will continue to practise lots of blending and segmenting and will also start our reading groups!

Maths

In Maths we will be comparing sets of objects using the terminology: 'more than', 'fewer than' and 'equal'. We will be exploring the concept of 'whole' and 'part'. We will be practise object counting skills and will be matching numerals to quantities within 10.

English

For English we teach a story using 'Talk 4 Writing'. Talk 4 Writing enables children to be immersed in a story through learning through drama and role play. We will learn the story, focus on key features and pick apart the vocabulary. The children will then learn the skills to create and innovate their own story, following the structure/ sequence of the story we are learning. In Autumn Term 2, our focus story is 'The Gingerbread Man'. 

Forest School 

At Forest School children will be continuing to learn about different types of trees in our woodland and the lifecycle of a tree. We will also be focusing on how to use tools safely. We will have a mini project over this half term using bow saws and hand drills.
