Over the next two weeks we’re going to study letter writing. Of course, it wasn’t that long ago when letters were the only way to keep in touch with friends and family who lived far away and although now we have amazing technology to help us keep in touch, letter writing is still a useful writing skill. Many of the ideas and skills we’ll look at during our work on letters are just as useful when writing emails too.
MONDAY: Descriptive Writing - Postcards!
To get us in the right frame of mind for this new style of writing, we’re going to start with some descriptive writing. We have done this before, describing what we see, hear and feel when we look at a picture. Today, we’re going to use this idea, but we’re going to use postcards from famous places around the world to inspire us.
Go through the attached PowerPoint presentation and follow the three steps:
Step 1 - Choose a postcard
Step 2 - Collect words
Step 3 - Write a postcard
There are plenty of resources below to help you if needed.
