This week in Maths we are going to be learning about ‘Fractions!’ This is not as scary as it sounds!
We are going to be focusing on halves and quarters. We have done some of this at school together so hopefully it will not be too tricky. Start by watching this little funky fraction video about halves.
Today we are going to be focusing on halving objects and shapes. It is important that you know that a half means ‘one of two equal parts’ and the key language you need is half and whole. Halving shapes and objects mean that if you cut them in the middle they would be in two parts, exactly the same size.
Open up the ‘What is halving PowerPoint’ below to remind yourself. Then complete the activity attached and check with the answers. As an extension I would like you to use some scrap paper to draw out some shapes and then draw a line showing half. Use the template below if needed. Then if you can, cut them out and fold the shape using the line you drew to check it splits exactly in half.
As a bonus – Who can remember what that line is called?
