In this week's lesson you will learn the four points of a compass and you will practise using compass directions to describe how to move around a map.
I have attached below a 'Route Planning Word Mat' which contains the key geographical vocabulary that we will be using in today's unit.
First of all spend some time going through the PowerPoint below.
In terms of challenge choices, you may choose one of the below tasks in order to practise using compass directions.
Maze activity: Work out the route out of the maze. Write instructions for how to get out of the maze in your Distance Learning book eg. Go north 3 squares.
Town activity: Follow the instructions to find out where to go on the map.
Bee Journey: Navigate a route through the obstacles to help the bees to reach the flower to feed. Record the number of squares you move across and the compass direction you travel eg. Go north 1 square.
As an optional extra task, have a go at making a compass using the PDF below.
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU HAVE A WEEK TO COMPLETE THIS TASK.
IT IS DUE IN ON MONDAY 4TH MAY.
