LO: To text-map the model text

In this lesson we are introducing a new model text! Our goal is to learn more about the structure of writing a letter.

The first thing you should do is read through it yourself and check you can understand the words (using the glossary to check any tricky words) then follow the actions in video, before creating your own actions and icons!

Remember, keep your actions simple, any words already done can be copied! Your drawings should be simple and clear too and, just like the actions, don’t need to be done for every word.

Please send either a video or your icons to your teacher when you are finished, you can also send your guesses about which fairy-tale the character is from…

Use this as a base to finish your icons and finish your actions, I know you are all amazing at this already- keep it up!

Session 2: Tuesday 28th April 2020

LO: Recognise where tropical rain forests are located & what the climate is like there

(You have until Tuesday May 5th to complete these activities)

Today we are going to find out about the different types of forests that exist and where the temperate and tropical rain forests are located. If you happen to have an atlas lying around the house, now would be a brilliant time to get it out! Our focus for this unit is, tropical rain forests.  We are also going to look at the difference between weather and climate, and recognise what the climate in the tropical rain forest region is like. First, read through the presentation below, there are some video clips in it too.

Then read through the activities below.

Activity 1 – Identify where tropical rain forests are located on a map.

Activity 2 – Create a weather report for Manaus Brazil

(Manaus is the capital of the vast state of Amazonas and is also a major departure point for the surrounding Amazon Rainforest.)

We have all seen or heard weather reports on the TV or on the radio. Now, you can produce your very own weather report for Manaus, Brazil! Using the data in the pdf file (yesterday's forecast for Manaus) look carefully at the information, about temperature, precipitation (rain) and wind. You can record or write down your report!

  • What is the temperature high and low for the day? What do you notice?
  • When is the highest chance of rain? When is there little chance of rain?
  • Will there be a lot of wind?
