We hope that you have had a very fun, restful and enjoyable half term! We cannot wait to see all the wonderful things you have been up to- please send us photos or updates! :) It is another brand new half term of Distance Learning and we cannot wait to begin more fun tasks and see the brilliant work you produce. We also wanted to take this chance to update you on some new things and remind you of a few expectations.
Tasks will include:
Every day: an English and Maths lesson
Weekly: a Topic activity and an additional foundation subject of your choice- this could be MFL, Music or Science. Choose one of these three each week. Or more if you like...
Three times a week: Reading Comprehensions will be set on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Please also keep up your reading at home and feel free to share some of the excellent books you have read. We would love to receive some book reviews for our Year 5 'Book Recommendations' page. For spellings, please choose 8-12 words a week from the Year 5/6 Statutory spelling list and practise these daily. It is wonderful to hear so many of you are keeping up with your timestables on Times Tables Rockstars. You can find the link below and please email your class teacher if you have lost your login details. Timestables are so important to many areas of Maths so continue to work on them- https://ttrockstars.com/
For those of you enjoying the storytime of Tom's Midnight Garden we will continue to read 2 chapters every week, every Tuesday and Thursday a member of the Year 5 team will video themselves reading a chapter and upload it to the Year 5 Great Missenden Youtube channel. We hope you enjoy it!
Please email your work to your class teacher via the temporary 5B, 5M or 5W email addresses. We expect to see a photo, a word document or another appropriate alternative for the daily English task and weekly Topic lesson. We are happy to just have a summary comment on how you got on in your daily Maths and Reading Comprehension but if you still wanted to send a copy of your work to us we would be delighted to see it. Where possible, please send all your work in the same email or in several consecutive emails so we are able to keep on top of who has sent work in and sending feedback to you. Do not send work in throughout the day as you do it, please, to help us with this.
Looking after your mental health is very important- so do not worry about your work! Remember that you can email us with HELP NEEDED as your email title and we will jump you to the top of the email queue. We care greatly about your health and well-being so please do share what you have been up to when you email us with your work and we will do the same.
Stay safe and we hope to see you soon.
Miss Bassett, Mr Waite, Miss Rodger and Mrs Hardy
Towards the end of half term, many Year 5s were saying that they were struggling to keep to a routine and motivate themselves. Others have found it helpful to use a timetable to help them overcome this so we have made a suggested timetable that you could choose to follow. Keeping some routine is also good practise for when we do go back into school and return to school timetables.
