Good morning Year 5s!
We hope that you had a happy and restful Easter and enjoyed a chocolate egg or two! It is another brand new term of Distance learning and we cannot wait to begin more fun tasks and see the brilliant work you produce. We also wanted to take this chance to update you on some new things and remind you of a few expectations.
Tasks will include a daily English and Maths lesson alongside a weekly Topic activity. We have also been really pleased to see that you have continued to practise your spellings from the Year 5/6 Statutory spelling list. We recommend choosing 8-12 words a week and practising these daily. Reading Comprehensions will also be set 3x a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Reading book expectations are exactly the same - 3x a week. We would love to start up a 'Book Recommendations' page so please write us a book review if there is a particular novel or series that you have enjoyed and would like to share.
Some children told us they really missed reading Tom's Midnight Garden so from now on, every Tuesday and Thursday, a member of the Year 5 team will video themselves reading a chapter and upload it to the Year 5 Great Missenden Youtube channel. We hope you enjoy it!
Please email your work to your class teacher via the temporary 5B, 5M or 5W email addresses. We expect to see a photo, a word document or another appropriate alternative for the daily English task and weekly Topic lesson. We are happy to just have a summary comment on how you got on in your daily Maths and Reading Comprehension but if you still wanted to send a copy of your work to us we would be delighted to see it. Where possible, please send all your work in the same email so we are able to keep on top of who has sent work in and sending feedback to you.
Inspired by Mrs May's pink hair, we have an optional extra challenge for you. Please write a persuasive letter convincing the teachers to all dye their hair. If they are persuasive enough and/or we get enough interest, we will do it! You have until 4pm on Wednesday 22nd April to email us.
We understand that some days it may not be possible for you to complete all your work and you may need a bit of family down time. That is ok! Looking after your mental health is very important- so do not worry! Just send your teacher an email to let us know what you got up to that day. We care greatly about your health and well-being so please send us exciting, positive news or updates about your time away from school. We will do the same :)
Stay safe and we hope to see you soon.

Exciting new activities!
If you wanted some extra work, Mrs Hulbert has made some brilliant Music activities for you to have fun with and Mrs Hemsworth will be uploading a weekly French lesson into the MFL folder on the Year 5 Distance Learning Page every Wednesday. The History Club have also been busy coming up with fun tasks. Below is a 'Time Capsule' booklet to record all about you now and you can find more fun activities on their Distance Learning page.
