A Sprinkling of Rain forest Day Photos

W/C September 7th 2020

This week Year 4 have been getting back into the swing of the school routine and the children have settled back beautifully!  Generally, the afternoons we are finding a little long but as the weeks go by we hope that this will become a little easier.  We are certain the children are feeling tired at the end of the week.

As part of our English we have been thinking about the features of recounts and we have been working on place value in Maths, thinking specifically about the value of digits in 2,3 and 4 digit numbers.

We have also started our Rainforest topic and had a super visit from Teaching Talons on Thursday. We learnt lots of information about rain forest animals and also got to handle a giant millipede, cockroaches, a tortoise and a tenrec! We also got to take a very close look at Jerimiah the bullfrog and Custard the geko. Later in the day, Year 4 worked incredibly hard on their rain forest themed art work!

Homework

Reading:

Until October half term, we would like the children to read aloud, for ten minutes at least four times per week. Reading diaries will be checked every Wednesday in school.

Times Tables:

We would like your child to spend ten minutes four times a week doing Times Tables Rockstars. Times tables are very important in year 4, moving onto more formal written methods of multiplication and division.

Friday Talks:

Every Friday, the children have an opportunity to do a "Friday Talk" about a subject of their choice.  It could be about a hobby, pet, place they have visited or even their favourite author.  The children can bring in props if they would like and also prepare a PowerPoint. Any additional pictures or presentations can be sent to the Year 4 email – year4@gmglt.co.uk

If your child simply wants to talk about a particular subject, that is perfect too! A sign up sheet will be placed in each classroom. This is a lovely opportunity for the children to do some low key public speaking.

P/E & Games

P/E and Games happen each week. Games takes place for all classes on a Monday. Please check your child's time table on the main page for their P/E day. P/E kits need to taken home and washed after each session.

Have a wonderful week!

Year 4 Teachers.
