    Science Week - Mr Battye

It has been science week at Great Missenden and the children have had some truly memorable activities to help them along the way.

    Birds of Prey
Our theme has been flight and fall and we had an amazing visit by Mr Greenhalgh of First Class Falconry, who came to speak to us on Tuesday about Birds of Prey. All the children were given a demonstration of different birds including, Great Grey Owls, Kookaburras, Turkey Vultures and Harris Hawks. The whole school went out on to the field to watch a flight demonstration where the birds glided over the children and caught food in mid-air, which delighted and amazed them!

    Paper Aeroplanes
The children have also been taking part in a paper aeroplane competition to see which planes could go the furthest and which would stay in the air the longest. Winners will be announced in assembly next week.

    Science Show
Finally we rounded the week off with a science show delivered by Marguerite Fletcher and Dave Smith of the Ogden Trust and DCGS, where they wowed us with experiments around air pressure, thrust and density.
  • Ping Pong!

    Thu 24 Mar 2016

Three children from Year 5 demonstrated that 'practise makes perfect' on Friday 17th March. Last year we put the all weather table tennis tables on the KS2 playground. Oliver Charlton, Nathan Bergandy and Josh Mandeville are never far away from them. They went to Little Kingshill to play in a table tennis tournament and brought home the trophy! They won almost every game and were extremely humble in victory. Well done boys.

  • TREEmendous Week

    Thu 17 Mar 2016
Through the Woodland Trust initiative we were gifted 840 free trees to plant in our school grounds.

Last week the children planted the tree saplings in class groups, this also coincided with National Get your Grandparents gardening week.

This was a great opportunity for children to participate in some hands on gardening, and be in the great outdoors!

  • Year 4 Football Festival

    Tue 01 Mar 2016

Year 4 walked to The Misbourne for a football festival this week. For some children, it was the first time they had played the sport in a competitive environment. The adults attending could not have been more proud. They showed real courage and determination to score lots of goals and win lots of matches. Great job!
