  • Year 6 Trip to RAF Museum

    Wed 27 Nov 2019 Year 6 Team

This week, Year 6 went to the RAF museum where they learned about the different planes used in WWI and WWII and the inspirational people behind them. The children used coding to create compasses, and navigated their way around the enormous hangars. All the children behaved impeccably and the staff were very proud of them. What a brilliant day!

  • Year 5 Trip to Space Centre

    Mon 25 Nov 2019 Year 5 Team

Year 5 had a fantastic trip to the National Space Centre in Leicester on Monday, which supported and enhanced this term's Earth and Space science topic.  Many thanks to all the staff who accompanied us, and to the parents and carers for their patience in meeting us later than expected on Monday evening.  The consensus from staff and children is that the inspiring and interactive exhibits and the activities, which included learning about being an astronaut in the Planetarium dome, and programming a model of a Mars Rover, definitely made the long journey worthwhile!

  • Eco School Certification

Wed 20 Nov 2019 Mrs May

There was much excitement in school on Wednesday morning when the Eco Schools assessor visited us! Great Missenden has been a Green Flag Eco-School (the highest award possible) since 2010 and, determined to renew that award, the Eco Warriors last year and this term have been working incredibly hard getting the whole school and wider community involved in environmental activities. the Eco Warriors, JLT and SNAG members who met our assessor, Sandra, were all brilliant, as were the pupils who talked to her about their work in classrooms and answered her  (sometimes quite challenging!) questions.  Every child Sandra met was polite, enthusiastic and clearly proud of their school.  In turn, we were extremely proud of our pupils and were very happy to hear from Sandra that we had passed our assessment with flying colours, hurray!  This is testament to your fantastic children and shows how deeply they care about making our school and world an even better place

  • 6S Remembrance Assembly & Preschool Church Visit

Mon 11 Nov 2019 Mr Sperring

On Monday, 6S led a Remembrance service to the school. They delivered a very tricky topic with maturity and we were all extremely proud of them. Well done 6S!

Preschool also walked to the church to admire the wreaths.

  • Year 6 Remembrance Week

    Fri 08 Nov 2019 Year 6 Team

Year 6 have had an extremely busy but fun week learning about, and commemorating, Remembrance. Quantum Theatre visited on Tuesday, performing 'Your Country Needs You!’ which was a great show and deepened the children’s knowledge and understanding of the events of WWI.

Colin Doyle from the British Legion also visited, giving a fascinating and insightful talk on life in the trenches; what soldiers do when and if they return from war; why we commemorate Remembrance; and who we are remembering. Additionally, the children discussed the importance of the poppy and Remembrance services.

On Thursday morning, Year 6 travelled up to the church for a Remembrance service where the children read out some of the fantastic war poetry they had written.  They also laid the stunning wreaths created in their art lessons with Mrs Lee, which will remain on display over the weekend for the church’s Remembrance services.

  • Maths CHallenge at the Beacon

Fri 08 Nov 2019 Mr Kemp

Last Friday, The Beacon School in Amersham held their annual Gibson Maths Challenge for 12 local schools.

We took four strong Year 6 mathematicians to represent Great Missenden School and they did not disappoint. Through the 4 rounds they scored consistently well and were in contention until the final results were announced. In the end, they finished 3rd, just two questions away from the winning team of Our Lady's.

This is an improvement on last year's performance and all four children should be so proud of the result and how well they represented Great Missenden School.

Well done Alex, Nellie, Ella and Alex.
