Once a fortnight I will set the children a LO (learning objective) and they will record this in their Learning Log. At home your child is required to complete some work that will show evidence of the ways they are learning about this objective.
The Maths home learning will be an online activity. Each week I would like the children to spend at least 30 minutes practising their maths skills. (This does not have to be in one sitting; it could be 10 minutes three times during the week.)
They can practise their number bonds using Numbots (www.numbots.com), which they each have an individual login for. (These are stuck on the inside cover of their yellow Reading Record.) The Topmarks website (www.topmarks.co.uk) has a great range of maths games which will reinforce our learning in school. (This website does not require a login.)
Each week your child will receive a list of words to learn which will follow a specific spelling pattern. I will give them a task to do in order to help reinforce the learning of these spellings. They will then be tested on these spellings the following Monday.
Hearing your child read is so important. We encourage each child to read five times a week. Please continue to record progress in the Reading Record. In our Guided Reading lessons we have been focusing on the VIPER reading skills. These are: Vocabulary, Infer, Predict, Explain, Retrieve and Sequence.
The document below gives examples of questions you could ask your child.
