Reading

In Year 6, we would like the children to be reading everyday for a minimum of 10 minutes. They are required to record at least five of their reading sessions on their online reading record - Boom Reader (this must cover five separate dates).

It is the hope that children fill out the comments section on their online journal for every bit of reading that they do; this can summarise what they have read, make predictions about what they think will happen next, find definitions of words that they didn't know, comment upon what they liked or didn't like about the section that they read. They should focus on VIPERS, like we do in class. They also need to log any tricky or new vocabulary. Pupils can also write reviews at the end of their reads.

Across the school, but particularly in Year 6, there is a comprehension focus on children's reading. On occasions, please read with your child and question them on what they have read and understood about their book.

Online reading records (Boom Reader) will be checked every Monday and bonus gems will be rewarded.
