Reception Superhero Day
Fri 15 Mar 2013Reception had a brilliant Superhero Day just before half term. They all came in fantastic costumes and had so much fun throughout the day. The children did lots of activities, where they created their own superhero belts or bracelets, made their own superhero cupcake, did some beautiful art work and designed their own superhero. The highlight of the day must have been where a 'mysterious man' came into the classroom and tried to steal something very precious. With the help of the chidlren's superpowers we managed to go after him, hunt him down very quickly and returned what was ours. Well done all of you fantastic Reception superheroes. Bowled Over at Lords!
Thu 14 Mar 2013Lords -the home of cricket and, recently, the host of Chance to Shine, a cricketing charity which aims to keep cricket alive in schools as well as bring children together through cricket... which is exactly what it did.
Great Missenden was one of 8 schools that were chosen to bring 10 randomly selected Year 6 children to Lords, along with 2 very obliging teachers: Mr. Carter and Mr. Sperring. They had the opportunity to do the following:
Play an informal tournament, go on a tour around the grounds (even inside the media centre), meet the whole England women’s team and, finally, meet the batting legend Graham Swann and 6.7ft tall pace bowler Steven Finn!
Unfortunately, Great Missenden did not come out of the tournament victorious, having only won 1 out of 3 matches. (The winning team were given the opportunity to bowl against Steven Finn!) However, they did not let it bring them down, and kept going throughout the day - and they did feel as though they had won when they held the championship trophy!
If you thought the day couldn’t go up anymore notches, you’d be incorrect! The children were given permission to go into the Pavilion and sit in the home changing rooms and, finally, to see the trophy that England and Australia have been battling over for many years... The Ashes.
An unforgettable day and an unforgettable experience for all of the attendees!

Easter Card Competition
Tue 05 Mar 2013Our recent Easter Card Competition inspired lots of children to once again demonstrate their individual artistic flare. With entries from across the school it proved a tough task to select one winner from each year group therefore we had some close runners-up. The winning children each received a chocolate Easter egg and certificate presented by Mrs Addis and myself during assembly last term. A BIG thank you once again to all that entered!
