News just in: Year 6 takeover the school!
Fri 31 Jan 2014For a whole day, Year 6 taught the rest of the school. The children were in charge of preparing and delivering educational lessons, as well as marking the work produced.
The Year 6 teachers were blown away by the outstanding teaching the Year 6s delivered to the school. It was a joy to see them transform into mini adults in front of our eyes, and everyone couldn't be more impressed by how well they rose to the considerable challenge.
Year 6 should be very proud of their huge achievement. They're a real credit to the school.

Year 6 Mini Enterprise 2013
Mon 02 Dec 2013Last week, Year 6 took part in a Great Missenden School tradition- the Mini Enterprise Week.
The year group was divided into teams, with each team spending a day on one of the four activities; making crackers, wreaths, felt softies or cooking. The week culminated in a market where the teams could sell their products to the school and parents.
With every team raising roughly £100 each and a grand total of over £1000, the Year 6 Mini Enterprise Week could not have been more successful!

Year 6 Remembrance
Sat 30 Nov 2013Year 6 honoured Remembrance last week, as they took up their poppy wreaths to our Church for our very own Remembrance Service with our Vicar, Rosie Harper.
6K started the Service with a detailed and thought provoking introduction. Rosie discussed the importance of the work of the Royal British Legion and the religious significance of Remembrance. 6W performed 'In Flanders Field' by the war poet John McCrae and 6T finished the Service with some poignant and touching poetry.
Overall, it was a fantastic way to honour the memory of those who have fought for us. Well done, Year 6.

EYFS Family Art Afternoon
Thu 31 Oct 2013The children had lots of fun during our art afternoon last week. They were busy with many activities, such as making a Rangoli pattern, creating flowers out of tissue paper, drawing their own Mehndi pattern, using their hands and feet to make a poppy and hand prints to make a Christmas tree.
A big thank to all the parents who came in and helped.

Bee Bunting Winners
Mon 14 Oct 2013First, I would like to thank all the children at Great Missenden who entered the latest competition run by High Wycombe Bee Keepers.
On Saturday 12th October, the bee keepers, 100 in total,
voted on their favourite bee bunting design at their annual Autumn Gathering. It was a difficult decision as all the entries were very different and individual, but finally two winners were chosen.
In KS1, the winner was Poppy Pollitt for her amazing Queen Bee design, a queen any keen bee keeper would bee proud of. While in KS2, Annie Rose won with her unique, graphic design that incorporated various patterns and bee-related vocabulary.
Both girls were presented with a box of bee goodies in assembly. However, the overall winner was Poppy who also won the visit on ‘the life of bees’ for her class, 1C. The visit, next Spring, will consist of honey tasting, looking at bees under a microscope, bee activities and a chance to meet the bees in a live observation hive. BEE TASTIC!
Thanks again to High Wycombe Bee Keepers for running the competition. Anyone interested in bee keeping why not visit their website www.hwbka.co.uk

Bee Bunting Art Competition
Thu 19 Sep 2013There has been an amazing response so far to our latest art competition, but more entries are desperately needed. The competition itself has been organised by High Wycombe Bee Keepers Association who visited Year 3 back in May. As an Association their key role as a charity is to promote beekeeping through annual beekeeping courses and educational visits to schools. We have joined many other local schools in designing the bee bunting for their Autumn Gathering in October. The winning entry will get a selection of bee goodies as well as a class visit from the education’s team who will bring along lots of bee related resources as well as an observation hive containing live bees.
If your child has not yet entered and would like to, there are more templates available just find me at break time. The last day to enter is Friday 4th October 2013.
