  • Author Visit

    Thu 01 Jan 2015
We loved meeting a famous author, DD Everest, this week. DD Everest is the brain behind 'Archie Green and the Magician's Secret'. It tells the tale of a young boy who discovers an old book hidden deep within an ancient wooden box, written in a language he doesn’t recognise. The book sounds fantastic and we can't wait to read it!

DD Everest came in to give his top ten tips to the school in assembly, as well as running writing workshops for Years 5 and 6. He's inspired us all to read more and write creatively. Another great step in the Reading Revolution!
  • Come and Sing with Year 4!

    Sat 29 Nov 2014
On Thursday 13th November we were joined by loads of other school for a special singing festival.  In total there were 253 children.
When we got into the hall we did some singing it was great!  It loved it.  We sang ‘Hannukah’ which was one of the songs.
When we had done that we made loads of noise!  We were pretending to be fireworks.  All the singing was fun but it tired me out!  The ladies at the front told us all about the Music Service in Buckinghamshire.  You can go there on a Saturday and play an instrument.
When we went outside for play we were allowed a biscuit and they were really yummy.
In the second half it was even better!  It was really fun and the man playing the piano was amazing.  So was Mrs Jacob and the other ladies teaching us.
Finally we did some more singing warm ups and songs.  First the ladies at the front sang it while the man played the piano quietly and then we stood up and sang louder and louder.  I had an amazing day!
  • IMPS!

    Thu 20 Nov 2014

The Injury Minimisation Programme for Schools visited Year 6 this week! They taught us all about how to stay safe and avoid danger. We were shown life saving skills and how to react in a crisis. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and informative experience for both classes. We've all been practising our CPR and we're ready to save some lives!

  • Remembrance

    Fri 07 Nov 2014

Year 6 have worked their socks off to make these wonderful poppy wreaths to honour those who gave their lives for us. Our service at the Church was a moving and respectful tribute to our fallen heroes, and 6T's outstanding Class Assembly on WW2 and Remembrance was a poignant, well performed extravaganza. Well done, Year 6!

  • Guy Fawkes Competition!

    Wed 22 Oct 2014

In Anything Can Happen Club we've made the most amazing Mr Sperring guy. The proof is attached. If you'd like to to enter our Guy Fawkes competition, bring your guy to the Fireworks night and give it to myself and Mr Sperring (the man, not the guy).

There will be prizes for the best guys made. So far we are winning all of them!

Good luck and I'll see you on Saturday 1st November for the award winning Great Missenden Fireworks Night- this time the fireworks are synchronised to music!

  • The Great Missenden School Time Machine!

    Fri 17 Oct 2014
This week saw the invention of 'The Great Missenden School Time Machine'! This is a fully functional time machine, with the ability to transport the user to any time and any place (any resemblance to a box covered in foil is entirely coincidental). Every child in the school has been offered the opportunity to travel through time and experience the eye opening past or mind blowing future!

Ask your child where they chose to travel to and why. Just another normal day at Great Missenden School...
  • DAHLICIOUS DAY 2014

    Wed 01 Oct 2014
On Friday 26th September we celebrated Dahlicious Day and raised money for the Roald Dahl Children's Charity, helping children with serious illnesses.
In assembly, the children showed their knowledge of Roald Dahl's books by guessing the excerpts acted out by staff members.
The costumes were unbelievable. Congratulations to Mr Hobdell as Bruce Bogtrotter complete with huge chocolate cake - see you at lunch!

  • Year 3 Sleepover

    Thu 31 Jul 2014

On the 5th July year 3 did a sleepover in the school.  It was really fun and we did lots of activities including: painting, swimming, rounders, orienteering and ICT.  Then we went off to our tents to put our cosy pyjamas on.  We went to 6W and someone special (Mr Hayes) came to read us a bedtime story whilst we drank hot chocolate.  We went off to our tents at 9.45 and we were allowed to talk for a while until the teacher who stayed the night came around and told us to start going to sleep.

It took quite a long time to get to sleep because it was so windy and rainy.  In the morning we woke up very early so we went back to 6W to watch some TV whilst our breakfast was prepared.  At 7.30 we ate our breakfast the we packed up our bags and put them in Year 1.  We watched Lego Batman in Year 2 whilst we waited for our parents to come and get us.  We were all so tired but had had a great time!

  • Year 5/6 Tag Rugby

    Tue 01 Jul 2014

Mr Sperring, Mr Cordiner and Mrs Tomlin took the year 5/6 Tag Rugby team to the Bucks and Milton Keynes School Games on Thursday. They had already beaten numerous schools to reach this stage, as had the other schools participating. They came across some very talented players and performed extremely well. All of the adults present were extremely proud of the attitude shown by all of the children.

  • EYFS trip to Bekonscot

    Fri 20 Jun 2014
The children had a brilliant time at Bekonscot Model Village yesterday. They all behaved beautifully and had a great time looking at all the different houses throughout the village. We were busy spotting lots of different people who help us all day. They looked out for a little boy who had a pan stuck on his head, the house that was on fire and the police man who was chasing a robber.
All in all a great day enjoyed by all!
