  • Alice in Wonderland Day - Year 3

    Wed 23 Oct 2019 Year 3 Team

On Wednesday, year 3 celebrated their Alice in Wonderland day. All year 3 children and staff dressed up in their best Alice costumes, ranging from Mad Hatters to Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Throughout the day, the children made their own teacups, biscuits designed to look like playing cards and Cheshire cats made from paper plates. The day culminated in a Mad Hatters’ tea party, where the children showed their parents all the amazing work they have done this half term, as well as performing an Alice-themed musical performance and eating their biscuit creations. It was a brilliant day and thank you to all the parents for showing their support!

On Monday, the Eco Warriors were invited to St Peter & St Paul Church to help with the creation of a wildflower meadow.  We thoroughly enjoyed planting seedlings, scattering seeds and tucking into the refreshments that were very kindly provided by our curate, Elizabeth, and the church warden.  The church congregation have also started collecting used pens and dental products for our recycling schemes, so we brought those back with us too!

Having got to last year's final and losing, Great Missenden showed even more motivation and determination, going one step further and brought home the cup! Some great performances throughout the tournament, including a famous victory over defending champions Gerrards Cross, and a defensive display like no other meant all the boys were left over the moon and into the next round of the competition. Congratulations to all the boys involved .

European Day of Languages – a celebration of Language Learning

On Thursday 3rd October, Great Missenden celebrated the European Day of Languages in a whole school assembly. Students in Year 3 performed a song in German, Year 4 a song in Latin and Year 5 a song in French. We learnt that linguistic diversity is a tool for achieving greater intercultural understanding. At Great Missenden, our students are taught that languages are a way of helping us to understand each other better and overcome cultural differences.

Prizes will be awarded to Kirsty and Rosie for making outstanding Languages Stones during the summer holidays. All the stones will be displayed at the entrance of the school to show our guests that we celebrate Language Learning here at Great Missenden.
