  • Year 6 Trip to Isle of Wight

    Fri 14 Jun 2019
Year 6 have had a fantastic week on the Isle of Wight.  The weather may not have been perfect, but they had a fantastic time at the PGL centre, and on their various excursions. The children behaved impeccably and made us extremely proud.
  • Year 6 Takeover Day

    Fri 07 Jun 2019

Today was Year 6 Takeover Day and they have done a fantastic job! This week they have conducted observations, written lesson plans, made PowerPoints and delivered lessons to their classes.  Today, the temporary teachers have sent many children up to the office for Headteacher awards, proving that they have motivated and engaged their pupils to work hard and achieve some excellent work.  Well done Year 6!

  • Love Your LSA Day

    Wed 01 May 2019

On Wednesday 1st May, we celebrated 'Love Your LSA Day'! This was a chance for us to recognise all of the wonderful things our LSAs do.

We made them cards, decorated the classroom, teachers bought them presents and we sang songs of their brilliance. We are so lucky to have such incredible LSAs- we hope they know how much we appreciate them.

  • Author Message

    Fri 05 Apr 2019

  • Interhouse Cross Country

    Mon 01 Apr 2019

On Friday 29th April, it was our Interhouse Cross Country event!

The weather was perfect- sunny but with a gentle breeze to push us on. Everyone competed, running a course around our big field and the Bury Fields. It was a tough course, but we persevered and demonstrated our growth mindset, sprinting to glory and having fun with our friends.

The points were added up, and though it was close, the winning House was... Chiltern!

Well done everyone on running so well and helping each other. It was a wonderful afternoon!

  • Year 4 at Woodrow

    Thu 28 Mar 2019

Year 4 Woodrow High House Residential Visit 20th-22nd March 2019

Year 4 had an action-packed few days (and nights!) out in the wilds at Woodrow in Amersham.

The children all threw themselves, some literally, into the activities on offer which included: Shelter building, Pioneering (designing and building a trebuchet), Team building (such as transporting a ball over a distance using lengths of guttering), swimming, team games in the sports hall, Bush craft (building a fire from scratch), Nightline (manoeuvring through muddy obstacles whilst blindfolded), Challenge Course (think army- cargo nets, tunnels, monkey bars etc) and a scenic Woodland Walk.

This, in turn, developed their skills of independence, self-reliance, trust, problem-solving and team work. These skills were really put to the test when the children had to make their beds with FLAT SHEETS and duvet covers!

Moreover, when having complete control over exactly WHAT they ate… “Three pieces of toast or four?”, proving to be a particular dilemma!

A huge thank you to: Woodrow Instructors, the Year 4 Team, Mr Kaye, Mrs Hemsworth and Mr Tang for making the visit such a success.

  • STEM Week

    Mon 11 Mar 2019

Year 5 and 6 have had such an exciting start to their STEM week. After an introduction to what STEM week stands for (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) the children were joined by our guest visitor Mr Hoy from Cutting Edge in Pitstone. Mr Hoy asked the children to design a clock. The best designs from both year groups were selected and within the space of an hour they had been drawn onto a CAD program and cut into a 3-D clock made from the plastic Corian. The process involved using computing skills to redraw the designs and understanding how the mathematical coordinates were relevant to the cutting machines. We then sent the winning designs to the Cutting Edge workshop by email and watched the whole manufacturing process via a Skype link to the workshop. It was a sensational day – so many young inventors were inspired! A HUGE thanks to all the staff at CUTTING EDGE for their voluntary support.

  • Greatmoor Trip

    Tue 05 Mar 2019

On 5th March the Key Stage Two Eco Warriors and SNAG members visited the Greatmoor Energy From Waste facility. The children learned about what can and cannot be recycled and what happens to our black-bag, non-recyclable, rubbish.  Instead of being put into the adjacent landfill site, our non-recyclable waste is burned at Greatmoor. This heats up water in a boiler and the resulting steam powers a turbine, which generates electricity.

It was a fascinating visit, we were particularly awed by the enormous grab cranes moving huge volumes of rubbish at a time, the view into the incinerator and the massive fans cooling the water before it is fed back into the boiler. The children were a credit to us, with the Greatmoor Education Manager commenting on their exemplary behaviour during the visit.

It was great to see that in our area non-recyclable waste is not going to landfill but is instead being used to generate electricity.  It's also really important to understand that it is still more efficient and environmentally-friendly to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as we possibly can.

  • Cross Country at The Misbourne School

    Tue 12 Feb 2019

On Tuesday 12th February, Years 3, 4 and 6 went to The Misbourne School for an Interschool Cross Country Tournament (Year 5 were also at The Misbourne, enjoying the wonderful performance of 'The Addams Family').

We ran like the wind and had a fantastic time. We all got certificates for our amazing running and enthusiastic participation. Well done, everyone!

  • Little Missenden Festival

    Thu 07 Feb 2019

The Little Missenden Festival fully funded a composition and performance project for all year 2 children at GMS, HH and LM.  Over the course of the Spring 1 half term children attended several workshops ran by professional composer John Webb and a number of very talented musicians.

Children composed and wrote their own songs  (2T – 'Max Makes Mischief' and 2K – 'A tiny Island').  They then performed them alongside the other schools to tell the story of ‘Where the Wild Things Are’.

As part of the performance at the church, children sang their own compositions, performed a wild rumpus dance which they had choreographed and sang in a 4 part round with the other schools.

Children performed with live Bassoon, alto sax, piano, flute, piccolo, cello, french horn and  hosepipe!!!  Throughout the workshops the children were introduced to these instruments, and could ask questions about them.  They were able to instruct musicians to play as they wished for their own composition and just for fun!  The children were very particular about how the musicians should play and the musicians obliged every time.  Children were afforded the opportunity to learn the workings of the instrument, about the instrumental family they belonged to, and listen to a diverse range of musical styles played live.

The performance was delivered up at the church on 7th Feb 2019 with amazing energy and great musicality.
