DOUBLE CELEBRATION AT GREAT MISSENDEN SCHOOL
Tue 15 Nov 2016Top class and new class for Great Missenden CE School as current and past staff and governors toasted the opening of a beautiful new classroom on 14th November, on the exact 10th anniversary of the school's last OFSTED inspection.Great Missenden has been judged OFSTED Outstanding for 10 years, the last inspection was in November 2006, standards have remained high and the school has gone from strength to strength. A great start to their new phase as a National Support School, providing advice and support for other schools. The school became an academy in 2014, and successfully bid to the Education Funding Agency for £340,000 to build the classroom and a new staircase, which was completed to the delight of the staff and pupils of 3C who will be calling it home for the rest of the school year.“The room is really bright and it makes the pictures on the window light up” said Arthur. His classmate Cadence likes looking through the window to their lovely view of the school allotment. William did spot a drawback though, ‘We can’t stomp on the floor, because there’s a class below’ he said. Amelie is also really pleased with her new classroom saying, ’it’s much better than the old one’. Kiki agreed ‘Year 3 classrooms are the best ever’.Their teacher Miss Cartwright is delighted with the new space, ‘It’s so bright, and fresh, it makes a real difference to the children who are really benefiting from their own spacious cloakroom and quiet area.’Lots to celebrate for the staff and children of Great Missenden School, and it’s not even Christmas yet! -

Sports Week 2016
Sun 31 Jul 2016During Sports week, the children have participated in some truly memorable activities. They have learned how skipping can be fun, tried new sports and listened to two inspirational speakers.
Skip2Bfit
Our first activity was a Skip2Bfit session. In this session children were taught how to skip. They then completed the skip to be fit challenge where they recorded how many skips they could complete in 2 minutes. The children then repeated the challenge where they were encouraged to show a Growth Mindset and beat their personal score from the previous attempt. The children and staff were fantastic and showed real enthusiasm! Special mention should go to Caia Stockdale in 4S. She completed 270 skips in two minutes!
Kin Ball
The second activity was a Kin Ball session. In this session children learnt about a new sport called Kin Ball which originates from Canada. The idea of the sport is to work as a team to catch and balance a large inflatable ball so it does not touch the ground. This was a fantastic experience for children to experience and enjoy.
Beth Tweddle
On Wednesday we were lucky to welcome Olympian and Britain’s greatest (in our opinion) gymnast Beth Tweddle. She came and spoke to the school in assembly about her achievements, importance of physical activity and never giving up. After the assembly some very lucky children were randomly selected to participate in a coaching session with Beth, in the coaching session she shared her top tips and trade secrets.
Tony Harris assembly
On the following Tuesday we had Anthony Harris speaking to the children in assembly about his participation in the 2014 Invictus games, where he won a gold medal in the Sitting Volley ball. He spoke about how sport had a positive impact on his life.
What a fantastic week. We cannot wait for next year!

School Games success! - July 2016
Fri 29 Jul 2016On Friday, we took our Girl’s football team and the Year 3/4 tennis team to the annual School Games competition at Stoke Mandeville Stadium. TheSchoolGamesinvolves 1500 young people, representing theirschooland competing against other Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynesschoolsin 13 different sports.
The girl’s football qualified as they won their League in the Spring term, scoring over 10 gals in the three matches. The tennis team qualified as they won a Misbourne tournament, winning almost every match.
On the day, the girl’s football team went unbeaten. However, due to the short length of matches, we found it difficult to break defences down. We only conceded 1 goal all day but unfortunately missed out on the semi-finals by one point. Just before we were about to leave, the organisers came to find the girl’s and explain we could not leave the day unbeaten and without a trophy. We were therefore awarded the ‘School Games Fairplay Award.’ An amazing achievement to cap an amazing two years’ worth of hard work.
The tennis team qualified as they won their competition earlier this term at the Misbourne tournament, winning almost every match.
On the day, the team were fantastic winning majority of their games. This then allowed us to progress to the final where we played Portsfield Primary School. The final was exhilarating with Oscar and Caia both winning their games and John narrowly missing out by 1 point, this left the responsibility to Ruby.
In her final game Ruby showed a true Growth Mindset as she came back from 14 – 9 points behind to level the game at 16 -16 points each. The game was won by Ruby in a nerve-wracking last rally, which lasted 2 minutes! This resulted in Great Missenden winning the Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes School games Tennis event, a fantastic achievement.
Congratulations to all those involved it was a truly amazing day.

Girl's League Winners and Cup Finalists
Sat 30 Apr 2016The Girl's football team have had another fantastic season, culminating in the cup final last Thursday. Unfortunately they were unsuccessful and lost 1-0 to Gerrards Cross, who had a very strong side. However, this should not take the shine away from what has been a remarkable season. They have won the league, scoring 12 goals and only conceding 1. They have only lost one game all season... It just happened to be the cup final! Well done Girls. The school are extremely proud of you. Their hard work has been rewarded as they have now qualified for the School Games in July.

March 2016
Thu 31 Mar 2016Science Week - Mr Battye
It has been science week at Great Missenden and the children have had some truly memorable activities to help them along the way.Birds of PreyOur theme has been flight and fall and we had an amazing visit by Mr Greenhalgh of First Class Falconry, who came to speak to us on Tuesday about Birds of Prey. All the children were given a demonstration of different birds including, Great Grey Owls, Kookaburras, Turkey Vultures and Harris Hawks. The whole school went out on to the field to watch a flight demonstration where the birds glided over the children and caught food in mid-air, which delighted and amazed them!Paper AeroplanesThe children have also been taking part in a paper aeroplane competition to see which planes could go the furthest and which would stay in the air the longest. Winners will be announced in assembly next week.Science ShowFinally we rounded the week off with a science show delivered by Marguerite Fletcher and Dave Smith of the Ogden Trust and DCGS, where they wowed us with experiments around air pressure, thrust and density.
