Phonics and Spellings

From September onwards, phonics word lists or graphemes are sent home weekly for children to practise. From January, weekly spelling lists set on the website and set online using ‘Spelling Shed’ and these words will follow our phonics teaching each week. They are then tested on their spellings at school every Monday. 

In Spring Term 2, Year 1 will be focusing on learning alternative phonemes (sounds) for graphemes (letter representation) already learnt and exploring when to use which graphemes in which words. 

Please continue to practise children's tricky words at home as this will help in their reading fluency.
